A Hidden Treasure
Situated in the sub-region of Baião, this small winery called Encosta d’Arêgos was founded by a former banker turned winemaker named Alvaro, with vines planted on the slopes of the Douro valley.
Learn More About The Winery
Encosta d’Arêgos is located in the sub-region of Baião, located on the steep slopes of the northern bank of the Douro river, near the train station of Arêgos - the winery name meaning ‘Arêgos Slope’.
Encosta d'Arêgos is the creation of one man, Álvaro Monteiro Ribeiro, an ex-banker who has now dedicated his life to making excellent Avesso wines.
The Avesso grape is indigenous to Baião and thrives on the dry, unfertile slopes of the Douro river - the transition zone between the Vinho Verde & the Douro wine regions, known as the Douro Verde.
