More Than a Wine Tour
This isn’t a tour where you’re rushed from one winery to the next. It’s a week of long lunches, unforgettable dinners, breathtaking scenery, and genuine friendships. You’ll meet the families behind the wines, stay in a historic countryside manor, enjoy meals prepared by our private chef, and experience the Portugal that most visitors never get to see!
-
Day 1
Into the Vinho Verde Countryside
Your journey begins in Porto, where we’ll meet as a group before heading into the rolling hills of Northern Portugal and our home for the week, the beautiful Casa de Piellas.
After time to settle in and unwind, we’ll gather around the table for our first dinner together, prepared by our private chef, Marta, using seasonal Portuguese ingredients and paired with exceptional local wines.
It’s the perfect introduction to Portuguese hospitality.
-
Day 2
A Taste of the Vinho Verde
After a relaxed morning, we’ll visit Turra Wines in Celorico de Basto, where you’ll meet Bruno, one of the partners behind one of our favourite wineries.
Enjoy a leisurely vineyard lunch, generous wine tastings, and hear firsthand how their wines are crafted.
Afterwards, return to Casa de Piellas for an afternoon by the pool before dinner with Cristiana Carneiro of Carneiro Family Wines, who will join us to share her family’s story and wines around the table.
-
Day 3
Mountains, Vineyards & Shared Tables
Today we head into the mountains to admire the spectacular views from Monte Farinha before continuing to Casa Santa Eulália in Atei.
Here you’ll enjoy a guided winery visit, a long Portuguese lunch, and exceptional Vinho Verde wines with the family who produce them.
Back at Casa de Piellas, we’ll be joined by Zé of Rapazotes, our newest winery partner, for another memorable evening of food, wine, and conversation.
-
Day 4
Discover the Douro Valley
Today we journey into Portugal’s world-famous Douro Valley, winding through breathtaking terraced vineyards to visit Epordouro in Sabrosa.
After a winery visit, regional lunch, and tasting, we’ll continue to Pinhão for a relaxing cruise along the Douro River, one of Portugal’s most spectacular landscapes.
Returning to Casa de Piellas, we will be joined by Alvaro of Encosta d’Arêgos, and another beautiful dinner prepared by Marta awaits.
-
Day 5
The Birthplace of Portugal
Spend the morning exploring the medieval streets of Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal, before enjoying lunch at the elegant Casa da Tojeira, one of the region’s historic manor estates.
Later, we’ll return to Casa de Piellas where Alexandre & Pedro from Família Cardoso join us for dinner, sharing the wines and stories of their Alentejo & Douro wineries in another intimate evening around the table.
-
Day 6
Coastlines, Culture & Celebration
Our final full day begins in the beautiful riverside town of Ponte de Lima before taking in the spectacular views from Monte de Santa Luzia overlooking Viana do Castelo.
We’ll then visit Phulia Wines for an unforgettable farewell celebration featuring exceptional wines, traditional Portuguese food, music, laughter, and a few surprises we’ve carefully planned to end the week in true Portuguese style.
-
Day 7
Farewell (For Now!)
Enjoy one final Portuguese breakfast before we return to Porto for departures.
You’ll leave with new friends, unforgettable memories, and a much deeper appreciation for Portugal, its people, and its wines.

F.A.Q's
Everything you need to know about your Portugal adventure.
Yes. Guests are responsible for booking their own flights to and from Portugal.
We recommend arriving in Porto before the tour begins on Day 1 and booking your return flight for late afternoon or early evening on the final day, or extending your stay and flying home the following day.
We're always happy to advise on flight timings before you book.
Our tour begins in Porto with a welcome meal before we head to the beautiful countryside of the Vinho Verde, so there is only limited time in Porto during the tour itself.
If you'd like to fully experience the city, we highly recommend arriving a day or two early, or extending your stay after the tour.
We'd be delighted to recommend our favourite walking route, restaurants, wine bars, attractions, and other activities to help you make the most of your time in Porto.
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is required for all guests.
Your policy should cover trip cancellation, medical expenses, and personal belongings.
Travel insurance isn’t required before booking your place on the tour, so there’s no need to arrange it first.
Once you’ve booked, we recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance as soon as possible to provide cover in case you need to cancel before departure.
Many guests are able to obtain travel insurance through their bank, credit card provider, or an independent travel insurance company.
If you’re unsure whether you already have cover, it’s worth checking with your bank or credit card provider first, as travel insurance is often included as a benefit.
While we hope everything goes smoothly, travel insurance provides valuable peace of mind should the unexpected happen.
Gratuities are not included in the tour price. As is customary on small-group tours, we encourage guests to contribute a gratuity in recognition of the exceptional service provided by our drivers, private chefs, and Casa de Piellas staff.
As a guide, we recommend $150–$250 USD per guest for the duration of the tour.
To ensure everyone who contributes to your experience is thanked fairly, we kindly ask that gratuities are given to The Vinho at the end of the tour rather than directly to individual staff members.
We will distribute all gratuities to our Portuguese partners on your behalf.
We aren't able to collect guests from Porto Airport before the tour begins, so we ask that you make your own way to our meeting point in Porto. At the conclusion of the tour, our drivers will take you directly to Porto Airport, your hotel, or Porto train station, with all return transfers included in your tour price.
Moderately active. Expect walking tours, stairs at wineries, and uneven vineyard terrain. You should be comfortable walking for 20–30 minutes at a time.
If you arrive in Porto before our meeting time, luggage storage is not included. We're always happy to recommend convenient luggage storage facilities close to our meeting point so you can make the most of your time exploring Porto before the tour begins.
While we always aim to follow the published itinerary, occasionally small changes may be necessary due to weather, winery availability, or local conditions. Having now hosted multiple tours, we've also refined the itinerary to create the best possible experience based on guest feedback. If any changes are required, we'll always ensure they are of equal or greater quality
Absolutely. We can happily accommodate vegetarian and pescatarian diets throughout the tour, and we’ll always do our best to cater for allergies and food intolerances where possible. Please let us know of any dietary requirements when booking.
Unfortunately, we’re unable to accommodate vegan diets. A large part of the experience is enjoying traditional Portuguese cuisine, much of which is built around locally produced meat, fish, cheese, eggs, and other regional ingredients. While we’ll always try to be as accommodating as possible, we don’t feel we can offer vegan guests the authentic culinary experience that we want every guest to enjoy.
