Herdade da Lisboa is located in the wine region of Alentejo - Portugal's largest wine region by size as it covers a third of the country - and more specifically in the sub-region of Vidigueira & the town of Selmes.
The winery was bought by João Cardoso and hios two sons in 2011, but has been a winery since the 18th century.
Convés means ‘deck of a boat’, named for the fact that the famous Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama, was given the title ‘Count of Vidigueira’, after discovering the maritime route from Europe to India, and was given the lands of where these very wines were made by the King of Portugal!
Aragonez is the most planted grape in Portugal, & Spain, where it is more familiarly known as Tempranillo. It is also known as Tinta Roriz in Douro & Dão. Blended here with two french grapes - Alentejo is often called Alicante Bouschet’s true home & Syrah thrives in the poor soil quality.
